Your website is your 24/7 sales rep. It helps people find you, showcases your expertise, and collects lead information. For this reason, your website always needs to be up and running.

Recently, a client of ours had their website hacked and it had us wonder how many other people have also faced this misfortune. Although we were able to solve the problem quickly, we would hate to have this happen to you. Keep reading to find out which steps you can take to minimize website disruption and be proactive.

Backup Your Website

Talk to your hosting provider to see what your options are for backing up your website. If your website is updated regularly, you should consider performing regular backups to avoid losing data. Your hosting provider might offer this service, or be able to walk you through the necessary steps.

Have a Contact at Your Hosting Provider

Whether your website is hosted by a large or small company, know who to contact should you run into technical difficulties. Our client’s website is hosted by a smaller company so we have a direct contact to reach out to. This contact was able to help speed up the recovery process.

Keep Your Files Organized

Any document that is present on your website should be stored somewhere that is easy to access. In the chance that documents are lost, it’s important to have copies. We suggest storing these documents in a place that is accessible to the whole team, like Dropbox or Google Drive.

Have a Plan

Should you ever run into the unfortunate event of having your website hacked, have a plan. This plan can be shared amongst your team so that everyone is on the same page. Assign tasks so that everyone knows their role.
