Corporate Volunteering Great for Team Building

daily bread food bankLast Friday, the whole VA Partners team volunteered at the Daily Bread Food Bank. It was a great day out for the team as it gave us the chance to interact outside of the office, and work towards an excellent cause. It is an organization that we feel strongly towards, that we have set aside a number of paid days towards volunteering every year.

This was our 4th time volunteering at the Daily Bread Food Bank, and we go back because it is a great local charity that is well run, supports the community, and allows us to work together on something as a team. We encourage our team to find causes and organizations that they would like to work on.

Two of our team members, Sam Brennand and Marc DeAmorim, have decided to participate for Movember. This is a very popular local cause, especially with the technology crowd.

The charity that I support is Farm Radio International. My grandfather, George Atkins, started it in 1979. It is a Canadian not-for-profit organization working in partnership with 460+ radio partners in 38 African countries. They help African radio broadcasters meet the needs of local small-scale farmers, and their families in rural communities. Radio is still the best way to reach many of these farmers and their communities in rural Africa. I organize a curling tournament every year with the proceeds going to Farm Radio International. If you are interested in playing at the next bonspiel in April 2014, please let me know.

If your organization is looking for some feedback on volunteering, please reach out to myself or one of the other VA Partners team members. We’d love to know which organizations you support!
